Normally, in Buddhist philosophy, it is also pointed out that we experience hallucinations, dreams, and mirages which are ‘real’ because we are truly hallucinating, dreaming, or seeing mirages, when these occur, but their content does not consist of things with discrete, independent entities, or even existence. The world of empirical experience is exactly the same.

A Christian soul is a discrete entity and has eternal life. But from the Buddhist perspective of ultimate truth they would not be, because there are no entities in Buddhism. Similarly for the Hindu Atman.

This is truly different than any other philosophy, and it comes out of meditative insights, not speculation.

And while it is truly asserted in Buddhism that there are no things, it is absolutely not case that they are saying there is nothing. If I had to put it in Christian terms, they are saying: God’s creation is ongoing and not other than God. Now, how beautiful is that? It’s just that even God would not be a distinct entity either, so there’s just this eternal creating.
