Hi Graham, I didn’t intend that meaning. I mean, by that statement, that the insight that there are no entities anywhere comes out of meditation, and not philosophical speculation. I wasn’t indicating that other philosophical positions, such as a soul, or the Atman are speculative, just that the one I am talking about, which can be found in Buddhism is not speculative.

However, all meditation practices are not equivalent, and one shouldn’t expect completely similar outcomes from them all. Even in Buddhism, there are different interpretations of the emptiness of an intrinsic self-nature. But none of them are speculative, they vary in their interpretation of the meditative experience, but also, they vary in the profundity of the particular meditative experience achievable with different meditation techniques.
