Dealing with a much more insignificant problem, I one day realized that I had wasted decades trying to make sense of a particular type of phenomenon IN TERMS OF our current materialist understanding of physics and how it 'works' in the world. Instead, I accepted the phenomenon as a given, because it was for me, and then went about trying to fit materialism into the reality in which that certain phenomenon occurred. It was a long and difficult effort, that bore fruit.
For example, Consciousness: we do not know what it is, how it 'arises' (assuming of course that it must 'arise' from a material universal system), but we have technology! that shows us neurological (actually cellular metabolic) correlative activity in the brain. So, although we know nothing about the what and how of consciousness, we know with 150% certainty that it arises in the fully developed human brain (and perhaps a little earlier in other ancestral species) strictly from material causes, because we have those neurological correlates AND THEY ARE PROOF!!! -- and any effort to research Consciousness MUST work from those (unfounded) assumptions!
We are, as I like to say, cemented in place. (and as the water rises...)
What this means on a practical level is that no one will spend the time required to break free of their mental confinements and entertain a completely novel model that satisfies all actual requirements. We become blind to the novel. And Copernicus, when giving full credit to him for "dislodging Earth and humanity from center stage in the grand scheme of things," has become a myth, and part of the the flowering mythology of Scientism, that ignores the historic record, and ridicules non-adherents and doubters. For all the positive 'accomplishments' of modern scientists, somehow we find ourselves a failing species dying off on a murdered world, killed off by our food, air, water, and daily lives. And somehow, the only actual scientific accomplishments all seem to be focused on making that happen on an accelerated schedule. I want to go back to Science, jettisoning Scientism and scientists, and throwing away the mythology -- and blinkered vision -- they have created.
It's not too late.
