And yet, I feel safer buying something on their App Store. Their vetting process may not be perfect, but between the tech giants and the small developers, there stands the user. Apple, who always had physical products to sell has benefitted from their independence from having to monetize the users’ personal information, while tech companies have put their main focus on doing just that. As a user, I am assured by Apple’s big focus on their protection of my data because it will cost them greatly if they ever fail to do so. I’m not counting on their generosity, I am counting on their desire to succeed.
